Environmental Education activities.
Completed and future activities.
As a component of our environmental education strategy, Geobicom has organised three Christmas bird counts, two of them in Cordoba, Veracruz and another in Mexico City. These Christmas bird counts represent very good opportunities to encourage children, youth and adults to be closer to nature, because they are designed as a competition, where teams are asked to observe as many birds as they can in a single day, from sunrise until sunset, within a specific circular area, previously determined. In addition, the day before the count, the participants have the chance to learn about birds, in an ornithology and bird identification course. In this way, as well as developing a scientific survey, we are making people aware about conservation and the importance of birds and biodiversity in general. The bird counts, though carried out by the general public, are very reliable because each team is led by an experienced ornithologist.
Our next bird count will take place in Cordoba, Veracruz, in December 2010. If you would like to participate, please email us.
